Silver Lake Community Art Space
East Los Angeles College - Architectural Design 201: Design Studio I
Professor Orhan Ayyuce - Fall 2021 | Year 2, Semester 1
The concept of art|park includes reaching out towards adjacent
open and neglected land and expanding the green space as far as the community will allow. The art|park “tree canopies” don't provide the same health benefits as living trees, but they serve as a model that could be “planted” in areas needing more shade and heat-island mitigation immediately which, in turn, could facilitate the survival of newly planted trees.
Design focuses:
- welcoming from the street, embraced by the neighborhood
that rises behind it
- emphasizing open, naturally lit interior spaces
- relaxed, flowing circulation
- blending seamlessly with its site and adjacent sites
- maximizing interior|exterior connection
- respecting site’s context and heritage
- taking advantage of views to the north/west,
which include:
Hollywood Hills
Griffith Park Observatory
Hollywood Sign
