Data supporting the area’s needs:

- L.A.s #1 climate threat is urban heat with low-income communities and communities of color particularly at risk

- Silver Lake Neighborhood Council (Urban Design & Preservation Advisory Committee) Meeting speakers have expressed strong support for more creative and community space on a scale that respects the history of its site

- From 2001 to 2020, Los Angeles lost 68.7kha of tree cover, equivalent to a 49% decrease in tree cover since 2000

- NY Times-published study “To Combat Gun Violence, Clean Up the Neighborhood” Oct. 2021 shows solid data that cleaning up neglected lots and increasing green space resulted in participants around both types of interventions feel safer, and therefore go outside more often to socialize with neighbors. People around greened lots reported feeling less depressed. Crime rates decreased. The study demonstrated that for every $1 invested in greening, society saves up to $333 in costs such as medical expenses, policing and incarceration.
