Design Objective
Develop a site-specific proposal for a 50,000sf[max] learning infrastructure on a 32,000sf urban site at 4300 Degnan Blvd. in Leimert Park, Los Angeles CA - reimagining the role of education in architecture - while responding to the global climate emergency and the pursuit of greater equity and diversity in the built environment.
Program to include:
- 17,800sf learning space
- 60% dedicated to community college programming
- 40% for community use - flexible learning, gathering, studying area
- 5,000sf collective space
- 4,500sf faculty + community admin + support
This proposal for a new satellite campus of the Los Angeles Community College District centers on empowering the historically Black community of Leimert Park - especially single mothers and teens - through education and economic opportunity. Rooted in a curriculum of Community Planning & Economic Development, LC² reimagines a learning environment as an open, walkable village that extends the existing neighborhood fabric, fostering connection, equity and belonging.
